Improvement in care

Improving patient care is one of the best and most important aspects of evolving in to a minimal lift environment of care.

Products and practices within Diligent™ are designed to specific levels of patient activity and mobility using the international coding systems of ICF (International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities, and Handicaps, developed by the World Health Organization) and RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument).

Using a spectrum of lifting devices enables patients to participate to the best of their abilities and to further their rehabilitation.

Knowing that their patients are protected from further injury or fall, rehabilitation professionals and caregivers can safely encourage patients to increase their mobility, activity, and ambulation. This results in quicker rehabilitation and shorter length of patient stays.

Minimal lift practices also increase the patient dignity and comfort. One caregiver can transfer a patient, which is safer and more efficient than using a team. The transfer process is comfortable and safe for both the caregiver and patient. Most importantly, the minimal lift practices eliminate the hazardous practice of lifting patients under their arms or lifting with a belt around the patient’s waist.

Bowel and bladder outcomes are improved and skin breakdown is prevented with the ability to quickly get a patient to the bathroom. Hygiene is improved by working with tools that are safe and easy to use and designed to maintain the dignity of patients. Aggressive patient incidents and falls are curtailed with the use of a soft, supportive sling to protect the patient and reduce their ability to lash out or fall during all types of transfers.

Low friction repositioning and lateral transfer tools make patient turning, repositioning, and transfer smooth and comfortable while reducing skin tears and facilitating wound care.

The National Back Pain Association’s Guide to the Handling of Patients¹ reviews some of the benefits from moving to a minimal lift environment of care, such as:
  • More comfortable than manual lifting for patient
  • Reduced physical damage
  • Reduced skin shearing
  • Reduced dangerous fall potential
  • Encourages mobilizing
    - Improved breathing
    - Improved socialization
    - Improved digestion
    - Improved muscle tone
With Diligent™, patient care and satisfaction are improved because physical and emotional stress is reduced for both caregiver and patient. Together with our clients, we create an environment of care that is safe, stable and consistent.
