Reduction in injuries

The majority of employee accidents in today's healthcare organizations are ergonomic in nature.

In clinical areas, these ergonomic injuries are largely the result of patient transfer and repositioning tasks where clinical caregivers are helping patients. In nonclinical areas, these injuries are from daily tasks in departments that support clinical operations – dietary, maintenance, housekeeping, medical records, accounting, etc.

Diligent™ strives to eliminate manual transfer and repositioning tasks by training employees to use lifting and transfer equipment safely and effectively. We work with nurse management on changing patient care policies to include a transfer/mobility assessment of each patient and the use of equipment to safely and comfortably transfer and move patients.

A Customized Approach Diligent™ is a three-year injury prevention program, led by a Diligent™ consulting team that trains and mentors management and staff to reduce accidents. Our unique programs include a combination of tools, training and support, customized to meet the individual needs of each client.

We perform a complete assessment of each client’s facility to determine the right prescription needed to not only reduce accidents but the costs related to them.

The Diligent™ program includes:
  • Patient handling and transfer equipment for clinical units to transition to a minimal lift environment of care
  • A 60% incident reduction guarantee
  • Weekly to monthly Clinical Consultant support for three years
  • Customized "Team Implementation" of program, policies, and procedures
  • Ergonomic training to raise awareness and reduce accidents in key non-clinical areas
  • Tracking and quantifying program impact on well-being of staff and patients, as well as financial payback
Each visit from a Diligent™ Clinical Consultant includes:
  • Monitoring unit to unit compliance
  • Training new staff and continually re-educating existing staff
  • Troubleshooting unique patient transfer situations and scenarios
  • Review of incidents and accidents to assist with prevention strategies
  • Mentoring and helping Transfer/Mobility Coaches with policies and practices
Research Based
Practices and tools within Diligent™ are research based to maximize the safety of all patient transfer processes. Program equipment is intuitive and ergonomically sound in design, durable and tested to exceed international safety standards. Patient assessment protocols utilize dynamic and static load principles and studies that comply with NIOSH lifting guidelines. Diligent uses StatMan© and Dynadisc© tools created by our research affiliates.*

Measuring Results
In partnership with our clients, Diligent™ works to gather data in a variety of areas during the assessment process. To quantify the program’s effectiveness for each client, we track and measure results in the following areas:
  • Frequency of employee and patient accidents
  • Severity and cost of accidents
  • Return to work period
  • Agency or temporary staff usage
  • HR training, recruitment and retention
  • Patient falls
  • Care process improvements – fractures, wound care, ambulation
We also include ergonomic workshops for non-clinical employees to ensure that they are a part of the positive safety culture change and are aware of proper body mechanics and the risks prevalent within their work environment.

Our goal is to create cultural change within your organization and to eliminate accidents and the wasted expense and resources associated with them.
